Boys Varsity Basketball Starts the Season Strong

A basketball filled weekend at the LuHi tournament is now in the books for the SJLS Varsity Boys Basketball Team. Coached by Mr. Plassard and Mr. Pollert, the team came into the tournament off a season opener win against Klondike.

The team started off strong against the St. Peter, Fort Wayne on Friday evening winning 37-18. After a good night’s rest, the Crusaders took on the St. Paul Bears from Fort Wayne, but was unable to pull out a victory. In their final game on Sunday, the boys played with heart, but fell short in a fast paced, high scoring game against Concordia, Fort Wayne (42-37).

The highlight of the weekend came after most the team had returned home. At the closing awards, SJLS was awarded the Sportsmanship Trophy (out of 16 teams) while Theo E and Andrew P were named to the All Star Team as voted on by the coaches. Congratulations!

The SJLS Cheerleaders also were present on Sunday led by returning team members, Kiersten and Lizzy. The girls did a great job bringing the spirit and enthusiasm to the game and introduced a new stunt at half time. It will be exciting to watch these girls throughout the season!

Andrew P and Theo E show off the highest honor of all – Team Sportsmanship Trophy as well as their All-Star medals.
