Position Title:  Business Manager

Immediate Supervisor:  Chairman of the Financial Committee

Requirements:  Associate degree in related financial or business area; or a minimum of 3 years experience with accounting, financial, payroll, and benefit processes. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to effectively multitask, work independently and problem solve.  Ability to maintain strict confidentiality. QuickBook and Microsoft Office proficiency.

Preferences: Knowledge of state and federal regulations related to Human Resources.

Description: The business manager is the chief financial, business, and human resources officer of the church and school.  As such, the business manager under the direction of the finance committee and Board of Human Resources shall receive, take charge of, and manage all financial accounts and funds belonging to the church and school.  The Business Manager supports the employees of St. James Lutheran Church and School by onboarding employees, supporting employee benefit and payroll processes, and maintaining accurate employee records.

    2. Attends regular staff, finance committee, and Board of HR meetings;
  3. Financial Manager
    1. Processes all accounts payable activities paying through checks or bill pay;
    2. Reconciles credit card statement with receipts;
    3. Administers payroll activities in partnership with external payroll vendor on biweekly frequency;
    4. Approves all purchase orders, obtaining pricing bids on purchases, setting up and maintaining service contracts, etc.;
    5. Processes account receivable activities (billing and tracking) and reconciles checking accounts for St. James’ school, Preschool, Childcare, Afterschool Care, PTL, Hot Lunch, Athletics, Raise Right, and church;
    6. Deposits money collected;
    7. Performs end of month and end of year account activities;
    8. Performs tax filings for St. James by May 15 annually;
    9. Tracks receipts and disbursements of the “Special Gifts” accounts;
    10. Manages insurance policies and business contracts;
    11. Files all business reports / permits with government agencies;
    12. Works with the Director of Finance regarding School Choice Scholarships and Grants;
    13. Completes annual reporting for the Hot Lunch Program with the State of Indiana;
    14. Provides monthly financial statements to individual board chairpersons and assist boards in the development of their annual budgets;
  4. Communicator
    1. Assists Board of Stewardship in educating the congregation on fiscal responsibility;
    2. Responds to all financial and HR questions and issues;
    3. Provides regular updates on employee benefits and HR processes;
  5. Employee Resource
    1. Ensures onboarding of employees including all compliance requirements and benefit and payroll enrollments;
    2. Prepares offer letters and contracts when staff is hired;
    3. Maintains employee personnel files;
    4. Facilitates employee benefit processes (healthcare, pension, disability) including annual enrollment;
