Food Service Director

Position Title: Food Service Director

Immediate Supervisor: Principal

Education and Experience: 

• High school diploma or equivalent 
• Specialized training in food preparation and/or food service management with demonstrable computer, record keeping, and communication skills is highly preferred

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand for a long period of time
• Must be able to occasionally lift up to 40 pounds

Scope of Job:

As the St. James Food Service Director, you’ll oversee the daily operations of the cafeteria and food service program. 

This is a ten month full-time (40 hours/week), and two month part-time (20 hours/week) non-exempt (hourly) position that reports directly to the Head Mistress.

Responsibilities:

1. General Responsibilities:
   1. Support the value, philosophy, and mission of St. James Lutheran School.
   2. Perform these services according to the Word of God and the teachings of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
   3. Work effectively with students, parents, faculty, and church members.
2. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
   1. Maintain kitchen area and manage inventory needs for the lunch and snacks for both EC and K-8 programs.
   2. Prepare and serve good and wholesome food.
   3. Maintain compliance with the Indiana Health Department; to comply with all necessary rules, regulations, and licensure requirements through the Indiana Health Department; and to maintain a high standard of quality.
   4. Prepare and maintain the budget by managing all income and expenses related to the program.
   5. Hiring and training food service personnel
   6. Effectively managing and leading staff members
   7. Regularly evaluating staff performance and program quality
   8. Enforcing safety policies and procedures
   9. Promoting school food nutrition to students, teachers and parents
   10. Developing alternate menus for special diets
   11. Model and facilitate good human relations skills, effectively interacting with others.
   12. Other duties as assigned.
