Empowering Our Students

This is the theme at the IMEA Middle School Honor Choir that clinician, Bishop Dr. Chantel Wright, shared with 150 of the state’s best choristers. They are the future. They can dispel hate with their voices and the messages in their music. Our students are the future, they cannot and should not hide behind others, but step out in lead. Sometimes we will fail, but we pick ourselves up and try again. That is what makes us stronger.

“The Bishop is intense, but it’s all good” says Amelia Goodspeed, an 8th grade student and participant in the Middle School Honor Choir. “Bishop Wright has helped me to focus on the cultural sensitivities of different styles of music more than I had before.”

Choir members auditioned in October and have been working on their music individually since acceptance in mid-November. This Amelia’s 5th year as a part of the IMEA Honor Choirs both at Elementary and Middle School levels. Amelia was also chosen as a soloist for the performance with an audience of over 1500 including many teachers and professionals attending the Indiana Music Educators Conference in Fort Wayne. Congratulations Amelia!
