Position Title: Early Childhood Aide

Immediate Supervisor: Early Childhood Co-Director

Scope of Job:

The Early Childhood Aide is to assist the Lead Teacher in providing a warm, nurturing, Christ-centered, safe and loving environment in which children can grow physically where their faith is nurtured and independence is encouraged. The Early Childhood Aide is also responsible for ensuring compliance with codes of all State and local governing agencies; and works collegially with other staff members of St. James Lutheran Church & School.

This is a part-time (20-30 hours/week), 10-month, non-exempt (hourly) position that reports directly to the EC Co-Director.

Qualifications

    1. Must be 18 years old
    2. Must have a High School Diploma or General Education Diploma
    3. Must hold and maintain current CPR & First Aid certificates
    4. Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds
    5. All employees, regardless of position, serve as role models for children and adolescents who are served by St. James Lutheran Church & School. Therefore, each employee must at all times be emotionally stable and able to function effectively with children, adolescents and adults who may have mental or behavioral health problems. The staff must be able to demonstrate appropriate daily behavior, appropriate expression of emotions, as well as appropriate role modeling. Hostility, aggression and unnecessary or inappropriate physical actions as well as inappropriate emotional expression are not acceptable.

Responsibilities

  1. Complete 20 hours of early childhood related training per school year
  2. Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of the children at all times
  3. Assist assigned teacher in any way possible including but not limited to:
  4. Preparing and setting up activities
  5. Implementing portions of the daily program as directed by Lead Teacher
  6. Assisting in keeping the classroom, storage areas, and shared areas clean, neat and sanitized
  7. Serve snacks
  8. Assisting children with diapering/toileting needs
  9. Maintain communication with parents
  10. Be familiar with Indiana state regulations
  11. Be familiar with the Program Policies of St. James Lutheran Early Childhood Program
  12. Attend monthly staff meetings
