Early Childhood Aide
Scope of Job
The Early Childhood Aide assists the Lead Teacher in providing a warm, nurturing, Christ-centered, safe, and loving environment where children can grow physically, have their faith nurtured, and develop independence. The aide also ensures compliance with State and local governing-agency codes and works collegially with St. James Lutheran Church & School staff.
This is a part-time, 20–30 hours per week, 10-month, non-exempt hourly position reporting directly to the Early Childhood Co-Director.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old and hold a high school diploma or GED.
- Must hold and maintain current CPR and First Aid certificates.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
- Must serve as an emotionally stable, effective role model for children, adolescents, and adults. Hostility, aggression, inappropriate physical actions, and inappropriate emotional expression are not acceptable.

Responsibilities
- Complete 20 hours of early-childhood-related training per school year.
- Supervise and ensure children’s safety and well-being at all times.
- Assist the assigned teacher with activities, daily-program implementation, room sanitation, snacks, diapering and toileting, and parent communication.
- Be familiar with Indiana regulations and St. James Early Childhood Program Policies; attend monthly staff meetings.
