Veterans Honored

“This program has become special to our students and families. The highlight is always the
singing of the Armed Forces Salute. This year we have a wall of Veterans and Servicemen and
women that we are honoring as well as special guest speaker Retired Navy Chaplain, Ron
May,” says Amanda Goodspeed, Music Director and School Leadership Team member. “It is so
important to remember that honoring our veterans and troops goes beyond this one day. It’s a
daily responsibility. We must continue to support them, not only in word but in action.” Later this
month, students in Kindergarten and first grade will be creating care packages for the workers at
the Indiana Veterans home.

This year’s speaker is Navy Chaplain, Ronald May, who maintained a dual ministry as a
Lutheran Pastor and Navy Reserve Chaplain for 22 years, retiring from both in 2012. Ron
currently serves as the Chaplain at Hoosier Village Retirement Community in Zionsville, where
he has served since 2015. He is also an accomplished author, with several books that will be
available for purchase at the event.

St. James Lutheran School has been committed to providing a comprehensive education that
includes an understanding and appreciation of our nation’s history and the individuals who have
shaped it. We invite all families and their special Veterans to join us in this celebration of our
heroes.
